Market According to Your Purpose! Marketing for the Self Published and Independently Published Author.
All authors should remember this - No one will understand your purpose for creating your work as much as you will! No one cares about your work as much as you do! So, while your work may be riveting, its acceptance is not automatic. It can only be great to the people who have had the opportunity to read it and learn about it.
During our author intake process we employ what we refer to as a publishing needs assessment. During this process we put forth a substantial amount of effort toward determining what the drivers are behind the authors desire to publish their work. We ask questions such as ‘What are your goals?’ and find that some prospective authors want to leave a legacy, others simply want to see their name on a published work and yet others are most interested in making money.
Before any author delves into publishing their work they must first determine why they are publishing! Our theme is ‘to thine own self be true’. Once the author is confident in why they are sharing this material with the world, we can better gage how the
material should be shared and with whom. That reason will always be different depending on the author. That reason will drive how the author should market their product, the amount of energy that should be put into marketing, the amount of money that should be invested into a marketing campaign. Ultimately, the authors' reason for publishing will impact what a successful project feels like to the author.
